Adolescent Anger Management

Back to articles list

Adolescence is a difficult age, when changes are in place in both body and mind. Teens may feel out of control at times, and problems with parents or teachers may occur. Anger is one of the emotions common in adolescence and that is why adolescent anger management is recommendable.

Anger is not surprising given the great pressure a teen faces nowadays. Before getting 18 he probably has seen several disturbing news on TV, movies involving violent scenes and has played video games that might not be very educative. There also are individuals that come from broken families, in which violence was common. There are many factors that contribute to anger to occur, but there are also adolescent anger management strategies.

When a teen is not used to managing his anger he might act violently and even break the law. This attracts interventions of several parts: parents, teachers, law enforcement officials and juvenile experts. An important step in adolescent anger management is to help the teen be aware of what he feels. Then he must come to understand that when negative feelings occur it is better to ask for help. Mature behaviors must also be presented to the teenager.

Teens that spend time at juvenile detention centers will be involved in adolescent anger management programs. With the help of therapists they will learn to correct their behavior and to act in socially permitted ways. These teens may not have been though to react in positive ways to negative stimuli. Adolescent anger management programs will teach them various attitudes that they may have when facing unpleasant and frustrating situations. A teenager may even learn on his own if he realizes what the benefits of doing this are. There are several books and internet sites where tips to staying calm and dealing with negative feelings are presented.
