Are Teens With Adhd So Different From The Usual Teens Boarding Schools

Back to articles list

If teenagers in general can give their parents a hard time bringing them up, teens with ADHD are even more difficult to deal with. Everybody knows how difficult it is, as a teenager, to deal with your emotional problems. For those teens with ADHD problems this period in their life is worse, because they already have a problem they have to deal with, and they aren't as mature as the other teens, at least from an emotional point of view. In other words, they have to deal with the problems any adolescent has without having the necessary resources to do so. This is why teens with ADHD have to be treated slightly different.

First, don't go changing all the childhood rules, as this will only confuse your son or daughter. Yes, the rules have to be changed, but gradually; as you know, teens with ADHD have a hard time adapting, so you won't get anywhere unless your teen understands the situation as clearly as possible. In order to make sure your teen will know and understand all the rules, it would be better if you'd attract him into setting up this set of rules; this contribution from his part will make him understand better, he will feel that his opinion matters, and consequently the chances of obeying the rules are much higher this way. Remember that it is not impossible to deal with teens with ADHD; it just requires a little more attention and care.

Perseverance is important, as well as monitoring his moves constantly, as to see if he has made any progress or not. You should also have to communicate with his teachers, in order to see if he is really doing well in school, if his behavior is adequate and so on. All teens, including teens with ADHD need to feel independent and protected in the same time, so you must be careful and understanding, as to help them pass through this rough period in their lives.
