Boarding Schools Past And Present

Back to articles list

Some time ago, boarding schools were supposed to be meant for only troubled teen, or children who come from troubled families. Boarding schools were, and still are being thought of as places where children are sent to be disciplined and stay away from trouble. However nowadays, boarding schools have an entirely different perspective. There are even good children from normal and happy families are sent to study in boarding schools to become better individuals. Going to boarding schools makes the students become independent, self-motivated, and confident individuals who can make practical decisions in life.

It used to be that boarding schools were once meant for troubled teens that came from troubled families. The rules and regulations in these boarding schools were meant to teach strict discipline, and if a student broke the rules, punishment followed. But times have changed and boarding schools are now geared fro all types of students from all types of backgrounds, however there are still special boarding schools that are meant for troubled teens.

These special boarding schools allow the students to tackle several problems like depression, alcohol, drug abuse, teen suicide, stress, ADHD, conduct disorders, teen pregnancy, behavioral problems, oppositional defiant disorders, learning disabilities, obesity, eating disorders, violence, bullying and other problems that adolescents may face. Boarding schools provide therapeutic programs to enable the child to overcome problems through therapy, counseling and many other activities. With support from faculty and family counseling, a troubled child's life can be turned around for the better. There are religious, military and private boarding schools that are focused only on troubled teens.

Boarding schools for these troubled teens have programs that last from a few months to a few years, depending on the requirements. They offer more attention to students through a smaller student-teacher ratio, as well as special programs that are meant to help them focus and deal with their problems, as well as maintain a normal academic setting.
