Identifying And Treating Substance Abuse

Substance abuse is unfortunately a very common problem these days. So it is very important to know the substance abuse warning signs. The earlier you catch the problem the easier the recovery will be and there will be a lot fewer consequences as well.

A lot of the people who suffer from substance abuse have an addictive personality before they start using drugs. They could either spend too much money or eat too much and they would eventually see that they also get comfort from drugs.

One sign of substance abuse is when a person losses interest in things that they would normally enjoy doing. When you have a substance abuse problem you don't care about anything and you certainly don't want to be around other people who might notice you are "high" and criticize you. Eventually nothing but getting high will make them happy.

Changes in appetite are also very common with substance abuse problems. When using substances people will either lose their appetite or feel overly hungry, depending on the substance. It goes without saying that the lack of nutrition can be very harmful to your body.

Another symptom associated with substance abuse is poor hygiene. There are many changes that take place in one's body and mind and a person with a substance abuse problem will start neglecting themselves. Nothing will matter except the substance.

It is important to research the many warning signs of substance abuse, being aware of them is vital to helping yourself or a friend. Once you are aware of them you can begin to take the steps it takes to get better. If you or your loved one suffers from substance abuse, there is a solution and many people who are willing to help; you just have to really want the help.
