They have a rough time focusing or coping with the people around them, accomplishing tasks or controlling their behavior. To all of these, the characteristic problems of any teen add a lot of stress, so ADD/ADHD teens can be pretty hard to manage. If, as a small child, it was only about a behavioral, temperamental problem, things get much more complicated as they grow up. As a parent, you might be going to a rough time yourself, trying to understand your son and do only what is best for him.Unfortunately enough, many parents aren't quite aware about the existence of ADD/ADHD syndrome, so often enough ADD/ADHD teens are just seen as "slow" persons. You should know that if your son has problems concentrating, accomplishing simple tasks, if he seems smart but cannot actually finish any test, or is brilliant when it comes to complex tasks but cannot deal with some much simpler ones he might be one of the many ADD/ADHD teens. Actually, round 3-5 percent of all the children and teens suffer of this condition. This is why you should get him to a doctor as soon as you notice any of the symptoms above. Don't rush judging for yourself: many times, perfectly normal children are thought to have ADD or ADHD. How should you manage ADD/ADHD teens? Well, the first rule would be to be patient and give them as much time as they need. The fact is that most of the ADD/ADHD teens are able to accomplish the given tasks, only that they will do it in their own time. Moreover, remember that this disease has manifestations at all levels, so it is in your son's best interest to let his teachers know about it. |
