Parenting Teens

Back to articles list

Parenting teens has never been easy. It would seem like this period in your son's life is your final test before you'd actually be able to say "my son's a grown up now". It's a hard time for everyone, for your teen, but also for you. So what do you do to make it through? Are there special tips for parenting teens, tips that could make it easier for you, for your son, for the rest of your family members?

First of all, you should know that you are not alone; all parents have survived, and so will you. Having a positive attitude could spare you a lot of trouble; chances are high that if you stay positive so will your teen, so you will be able to communicate better. Remember that parenting teens is not an easy task, but that doesn't mean that it's an impossible one. In fact, it might be helpful for you to talk to other parents, to change opinions and feelings, as this might help you realize that you're not the only one having this kind of problems.

Many say that parenting teens could make you feel crazy. The fact is that most of the teenagers are difficult to deal with, and the inconsistency of their behavior, their outbursts and the occasional deceptions could make a parent feel that he's loosing touch with reality. Don't despair: remember that in fact you're the adult; your son is already confused, the last thing your family needs is another confused member.

Parenting teens might seem like a never ending job. Although you feel that this will never end, try to keep in mind that it's only a phase, and, as any other, it will soon pass. And during all this time, remember you're a family; try not to neglect its other members, or you risk dealing with other problems too.
