Parenting Teens With AdhdTeens with ADHD can be a difficult experience for a parent. Research has proven that troubled teens with ADHD can be quite the task since they are less emotionally mature than their peers. By not being as emotionally mature, troubled teens with ADHD can struggle with acceptance amongst his or her peers since their physical development is similar but their emotional is not. There are a few things that can help parents with ADHD teens. First, you want to make sure you have clear rules and both you and your ADHD teens know them. Have your troubled teen involved in the process of making them. This way they will be more likely to obey the rules. You also need to be as consistent as you can possibly be. If there are two parents raising ADHD teens, have a set of rules that both of you consistently enforce. Regarding rewards and consequences, try to keep this system up from childhood but know that your child is growing up and modifications will need to be made. It is not impossible to deal with teens with ADHD; you simply need to be consistent and firm, but understanding. Even with these parenting guidelines, raising troubled teens with ADHD will not be easy. ADHD teens are more likely to experiment with illegal drugs, be involved with illegal activities and are prone to rebel more. They are also more likely to become addicted to any of these activities because of their constant need for high stimulation. Parenting teens with ADHD is not impossible but it will take a lot of work from the parents and the troubled teen. |
