Rules As A Way To Help A Troubled TeenAdolescence is a difficult age and that is why there are many people out there looking for help for troubled teen. When it comes to teens it is important to set certain limits so that troubles are avoided. The way rules are set is what makes them efficient or not: a teen should not just be told what not to do, but the opportunity for him to do it must be prevented. Prevention is a way to provide help for troubled teen. Knowing who and what the adolescent spends his time with, when and where is in his benefit. Rules may be a way of providing help for troubled teen, but first they must be clearly understood. Monitoring the rules, being consistent and making use of the consequences in the right way are three other key factors in being efficient by setting rules. It is necessary that rules are clear to the teenager so that little room is left for conflicts or manipulations. There are rules that are easy to interpret in more than one way. Therefore it is necessary to be specific when setting a rule. Help for troubled teen is only obtained if a set of rules is in place along with a monitoring system. The teen should be aware that his behavior is monitored so that he is motivated to follow the guidelines. Also this keeps him safe from feeling offended if he discovers he was monitored without knowing it. Of course, he must be given space and intimacy and not be made to feel jailed. If help for troubled teen is needed, being consistent is also a key. Allowing small problems to pass without reminding the teen the importance of the rule that was not observed will confuse him and will soon lead to chaos. Consequences that follow the violation of the rule must be understood, discussed and used as deterrents. |
