Stress And Depression Are Serious Trouble For Young PeopleLife for many teenagers is not as many adults tell them it is: "the best time of your life". This image of great times gathers only positive moments, because most of young people face with some serious problems while growing up. In all this time, youth people confront with parents, teachers, friends, coachers, employers and themselves. Perhaps they want to negotiate their way to their independence, and this creates stress and it may lead to teen depression. Teen depression is real. Studies and reports show that stress and depression are serious trouble for young people. 61% of students are not depressed and seem to handle their hard times in a constructive way, while 39% of them suffer of severe depression. Depression is defined as being a sum of more extreme feelings like: hopelessness, sadness, isolation, worries, and it can last from a week or two, till a couple of months - in some cases years. As it was categorized by doctors who threat teen depression, it can be a major form of depression or a less severe form - dysthymia. A third form is called adjustment disorder with depressed mood, and it appears as a reaction to a specific event. The most common reasons for which teen depression appears are: break up with boy/girl friend, increased arguments with parents, brothers, sisters or friends, financial status, serious illness or injury of family member, trouble with classmates. All these events have two backgrounds that are important for a teenager: school and home. Any loss in any of these two domains, can lead to loss of such intrinsic things as self-worth, respect, friendship or love. It is very important not to overreact to these events. Young people will learn to handle and deal with them, although it will lead to a teen depression. There are some factors that can create a predisposition for dealing poorly with stress and depression: history of depression and/or suicide in the family, alcoholism or drug use in family, sexual or psychical abuse pattern in the family, family or individual history of psychiatric disorders, serious loss in family, poor parent-child relationships and others. Teen depression can be very dangerous because in some cases it can lead to suicide. The teenager feels caught in all his problems, and he cannot see the relief, so he appeals to a suicide act. Parents should be careful at their children behavior. If they start to become impulsive, aggressive, isolated, cannot concentrate, loss or gain significant weight, feeling guilt or worthlessness it is obviously that they need help. Not long after those symptoms appear, they might have thoughts of death or suicide. Teen depression may also have other warning signs or symptoms. They may have increased problems at school, skipping classes, no interest or motivation, poor concentration - all caused by depression. Some teens find relief in drinking or doing drugs, others appeal to more macabre gestures like cutting themselves. Teen depression is not just feeling blue or sad. Depression is one of the most common emotional problems affecting 39% of teenagers. However, it can be treated. There are doctors who can help. Reports shows that 80% of people who get help in any form, have a better life right now. They learned how to enjoy in a way they were not able to do before. A talk therapy is really recommended, medication can also be a solution. Teenagers who are depressed shouldn`t wait. When youth people suffer by teen depression, they need love, understanding, trust, close friends and family. Talking to someone can help them passing through. |
