Teens Facing With Anger Problems

Back to articles list

Anger management in teens is usually manifesting through angry meltdowns or temper tantrums. There are specialists who say that anger management in teens doesn't really exist. It is only a problem of parental control and a problem of freedom. The experts consider that usually the teen when is at a younger age is allowed to have a tantrum and parents make excuses of anger management problems. Others believe that disorder may intervene through several angry reactions. The two points of view are correct. In many situations, problems with anger management in teens are a mixture between more components. These elements refer to developmental levels, a poor parental skill or a feeling of lack of control or behavioral disorders.

Compared to adults, teens might have often a series of problems controlling their emotions because of many reasons. They are usually confronting with the others and do not have the capacity to invoke the emotional control that an adult has (generally speaking). At a certain age, anger management in teens amplifies, because they get a self-centered view of things. They are the middle of everything and their desires and needs must be fulfilled. There are situations when teens refuse to become independent from parents fact that can lead to angry outbursts.Anger management in teens must be carefully controlled because it might become a big problem for both sides: the parents and their child. There are cases when teens become confused. These situations take place when they feel or realize that they don't have control at all over the facts that happen in their life. This leads at most of the teens to a daily frustration and more problems for the resolving of anger management in teens. This sensation of having no control is usually caused by over-controlling parents.

Also, because the parents consider that the teen is not mature enough to be granted with that control (going out to a party, for example). Unfortunately after these frustrations the next step is an undesired out of control outburst. Anger management in teens , can be also caused by a learned behavior, where the teen manipulated the other persons in the environment several times. He noticed that the method works and this made him have a learned behavior: when he needs something, starts screaming or crying and so on. With other words, when the teen doesn't have the control of things, and the facts are not as he would like, he uses the learned behavior. Parents, just to resolve the anger management in teens problem, respect the child's desire and give him what he asked. This can only lead to repeated tantrums in different attempts to get the desired results.

It is hard to determine anger management in teens, but parents must be vigilant and observe is the teen has a normal temper tantrum or an anger management problem. There are many factors used to determine anger management in teens. The most knows are: the length of duration, the frequency of these tantrums, the degree of provocation, the child's awareness of the trigger and of course, intensity. After noticing if all (or most) of these factors are beyond the expected, the parent will know if he is facing with a disorder or just with a normal anger reaction.
