Troubled Teens Programs

Back to articles list

Incorporating your adolescent into the various troubled teens programs may be a hard decision to make, but there are several different options out there for you to choose from. The troubled teens programs exist to give help to teens and their families that are seeking change. The cost associated with these troubled teens programs vary depending upon the length of time spent in the program and the amount of therapy that is provided or required. In order to find out more about the troubled teens programs available you should first talk to your teen's doctor or mental health professional and discuss which type of treatment would be best suited for their individual needs. You can choose from boot camps, specialty boarding schools, wilderness treatment programs and residential treatment centers (RTC).

The providers of all these troubled teens programs will differ in their treatment philosophy. This is why, before you decide to send your teen to one of these programs, it is best to search the facility thoroughly. If possible, you can also try to find some references that you can check with as well.

The types of programs that you can send your teen to are very different. For example, in the wilderness programs outdoor activities are involved, such as camping and hiking in rugged environments, because nature is considered to be the real teacher in this type of treatment. By contrast, in boot camps, the treatment involves high intensity military style discipline and some of them are considered a substitute for juvenile jail. The residential treatment centers are good treatment methods for teens who do not have serious problems, while the specialty boarding schools are long term option that can provide a behavior modification or character building program.
