Knowing Why, When, and How to Find a School for Your Teen

Troubled Teens And How Boarding Schools Can Help Them

Back to articles list

In the past boarding schools were strictly for troubled teens who came from dysfunctional families. Boarding schools were seen as places you shipped your troubled teen off to so they could regain discipline and respect for authority. While there are boarding schools for a wide variety of children these days, ones catering to troubled teens are still around and help kids deal with issues such as anger management, disrespect for authority, and behavior problems in school.

If your troubled teen is in need of a more structured setting, boarding schools may be an option worth exploring. History has it that boarding schools were once meant for troubled teens who came from troubled families. The rules and regulations in these schools were meant to teach strict discipline, and if a student broke the rules, punishment followed. Although times have changed, and boarding schools are geared for all types of teens from all types of backgrounds, there are still special boarding schools meant for troubled teems. Many boarding schools provide therapeutic programs to enable troubled teens to overcome problems through therapy, counseling, personality development workshops and many other activities.

It is hoped that this environment will help a troubled teen realize there are other students with similar problems. With support from faculty and family counseling, a troubled teen's life can be turned around for the better. There are religious, military and private boarding schools that focus only on troubled teens. While choosing a boarding school for your troubled teenage, consider the location, the size of the school, therapeutic programs), facilities, faculty members, workload, academic requirements, support services like counseling/career guidance, athletics, arts and others) and the school's environment.
