Troubled teens and juvenile boot campsIf your adolescent child has begun exhibiting troubled teen type tendencies, it may be time to explore professional help to ensure your child does not suffer a downward spiral. There are many options available, but many troubled teens have achieved success by going through juvenile boot camp. In the past youth boot camps have had a negative connotation and some people still feel they are too rough. But things have changed and youth boot camps have been having a high success rate turning the lives of trouble teens around.
Youth boot camps can be tailored to address any issues your troubled teen is having. Some issues that will be tackled include ADD/ADHD, resistance to authority, drug and alcohol abuse, school issues, and running away from home. Of course it can be difficult for a parent to admit to the fact that their troubled teen needs help greater than the parent can offer. But if you have made the right decision to send them to a youth boot camp, you need to understand that the environment your troubled youth will be entering is very strict, regimented, and disciplined. While some parents shy away from youth boot camps because of the cost, it is important to understand the level of investment you are making to get your troubled teen back on the right path. One thing to be aware of if you are thinking of sending your troubled teens to a youth boot camp is that most facilities will not accept teens who are on medication. If you plan to send your child to a camp, it is best, and sometimes mandatory that you wean them off of their medication before they go. In many situations, the camp will attempt to help a child deal with life medication-free.
While sending your troubled teen off to one of the many juvenile boot camps may seem like a last ditch effort to save your child, keep in mind that sometimes it's not the best option. If your teen has exhibited any signs of suicidal tendencies, consider having them treated in a psychiatric hospital or a residential treatment center. You may also want to consider a therapeutic boarding school if your teen is severely depressed. If he or she is self-mutilating or has been diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder, juvenile boot camps are not the answer. |
