Your Teenager Could Suffer Form Bipolar DisorderWhile the United States is the richest country in terms of technology and natural resources, quite a large majority of its citizens suffer form various kinds of disorders that range from simple depression which stems from too much societal pressure, all the way up to very serious disorders that require long term clinical treatment.One such serious disorder that affects both the young and the old is bipolar disorder. Even if this disorder affects people of all ages it is most commonly detected in adulthood. However we find today that an increase in Bipolar teen disorder, as well as an increase of children who show signs of having this problem. Bipolar disorder is more than just the usual ups and downs of life, or the ups and downs of a teenager. Bipolar disorder is a serious medical illness that involves the brain. The up feelings are called mania, and the down feelings are called depression. This disorder occurs as a result of hormonal imbalances in a person's brain. It is also considered as being hereditary due to the increased risk of getting the disorder if a person's parent has it. Bipolar disorder is usually diagnosed in adulthood, but this disorder affects an increasing number of younger children and teenagers. However there have been made advances that allow for the recognition of a Bipolar teen more efficiently and more early. The typical rapid mood changes of teenagers are no longer taken for granted. Many parents are now more aware that there might be something more to their teenager's behavior than just puberty. A Bipolar teen will have his or hers mind functions affected by the disorder, and as a result a Bipolar teen is subject to drastic mood changes. Such a Bipolar teen can be feeling completely hilarious one moment, and then totally depressed just a few moments later. A Bipolar teen can also display manic or obsessive behavior. Unfortunately some parents dismiss this behavior as being just ordinary teenage attitude, but there is quite a high possibility that the teen is exhibiting symptoms of bipolar disorder. Any teenager goes through his or hers own highs and lows, but the symptoms of mania and depression associated with a Bipolar teen can be recognized by swift and intense mood changes that are beyond those normally felt by teenagers. Another way to spot a possible Bipolar teen is to see if he or she displays excessive energy, can't stay still, or if the respective teen talks incessantly about a single or several topics for days. These are all symptoms of bipolar disorder. Another type of behaviors exhibited by a Bipolar teen could be reckless behavior or sexual promiscuity. A teenager exhibiting manic or depressive symptoms, or maybe even both, who turns to alcohol and/or drugs, or promiscuity, should be carefully evaluated by a medical professional to see if he or she is a Bipolar teen. A Bipolar teen might demonstrate these types of behavior as their way of coping with their disorder. But not only are alcohol and drug use not a solution to their problem, they will make their disorder even worse. Parents need be very vigilant when observing their teenager's attitude. Parents must not take dramatic changes in attitude as typical teenage behavior it may well be a symptom that their child is a Bipolar teen. |
